From the Recorder: February 10, 1944

In today's post from February 10, 1944, we have an anonymous letter to the editor providing more details on the failed attempt to appoint a replacement for the Village Board vacancy. In it, it notes that "The Village Code has no reference as to who shall fill the vacancy." If that was true then, it no longer is. Ordinance 1-207 states that the Mayor submits a name for consideration and the City Council votes. Should a majority vote not be reached (the Mayor can cast a vote in case of a tie), the process repeats at the following regular meetings until a replacement is approved. There is also an option to hold a special election to fill the vacancy.
