Board Chairman Harry Bothmer nominated Kenneth W. Haynie to fill the post until the April election. The appointment failed on a 2-2 vote, so Ralston continued with a four-person board until after the April election.
When asked about the consequences of the vote, Chairman Bothmer said, "I am not worried, particularly. Don't forget we have a very efficient and loyal village treasurer in Laura Shively. I'm sure everything will work out all-right [sic]."
