In today's Ralston Recorder from October 18, 1945, we learn that Ralston has thrown their hat into the ring to have a new veteran's hospital built here.
By December, the possible locations had been narrowed to two: Omaha Field Club and Harrison Heights Golf Course, south of the Field Club across Center Street. Ralston didn't make the cut.
Approval of the Field Club location was announced on April 23, 1946. Peter Keiwit Sons won the $9.98 million contract in early 1948. Construction began in March and concluded in September 1950. The total project cost was around $11 million and was dedicated on December 3, 1950.
