From the Recorder: May 31, 1945

In the Ralston Recorder from May 31, 1945, it was reported that Nebraska was close to becoming the first state where all electric power companies were publicly owned. This indeed became the case on December 2, 1946, when the state acquired the Maine-based Nebraska Power Company from the Omaha Electric Committee, which had purchased it in December 1944.

This entity is now known as the Omaha Public Power District, and was expanded in January 1965 with the merger of the Eastern Nebraska Public Power District into it.
